Soft gravitons screen couplings in de Sitter space

ABSTRACT:The scale invariance of the quantum fluctuations in de Sitter space leads to the appearance of de Sitter symmetry breaking infra-red logarithms in the graviton propagator. We investigate how virtual gravitons of the super-horizon scale affect the local dynamics of matter fields at sub-horizon scale. We show that the IR logarithms do not spoil Lorentz invariance in scalar, Dirac and gauge field theories. The leading IR logarithms can be absorbed by time dependent wave function renormalization factors. In the interacting field theory with lambda phi^4, Yukawa and gauge interactions, we find that the couplings become time dependent with definite scaling exponents. We argue that the relative scaling exponents of the couplings are gauge invariant and physical as we can use the evolution of a coupling as a physical time.

Freudenthal gauge theory

ABSTRACT:We present a novel gauge field theory, based on the Freudenthal Triple System (FTS), a ternary algebra with mixed symmetry (not completely symmetric) structure constants. The theory, named Freudenthal Gauge Theory (FGT), is invariant under two symmetries : the symplectic gauge Lie algebra constructed from the FTS triple product and a novel global non-linear symmetry, the so-called Freudenthal duality. We prove a No-Go Theorem, stating the incompatibility of the invariance under Freudenthal duality and the coupling to space-time vector and/or spinor fields.

Large-Nc universality of phases in QCD and QCD-like theories

ABSTRACT:QCD with a finite baryon chemical potential, despite its importance, is not well understood because the standard lattice QCD simulation is not applicable due to the sign problem. Although sign-free QCD-like theories have been studied intensively, relation to QCD with a finite baryon chemical potential was not clear until recently. In this talk we explain the large-Nc equivalences between QCD and various QCD-like theories, which lead us to a unified viewpoint for QCD with baryon and isospin chemical potentials, SO(2Nc) and Sp(2Nc) gauge theories. In particular two-flavor QCD with the baryon chemical potential is equivalent to its phase quenched version in a certain parameter region, which is relevant for heavy ion collision experiments.

WZW model and spin-1/2XYZ chain

ABSTRACT: We study the link between WZW model and the spin-1/2 XYZ chain. This is achieved by comparing the second-order differential equations from them. In the former case, the equation is satisfied by one-point toric conformal blocks. In the latter case, it arises from Baxter’s TQ relation. We find the dimension of the representation space of the V -valued primary field in these conformal blocks gets mapped to the total number of chain sites. By doing so, Stroganov’s “The Importance of being Odd” (cond-mat/0012035) can be consistently understood in terms of WZW model language. We further confirm this correspondence by taking a trigonometric limit of the XYZ chain. That eigenstates of the resultant two-body Sutherland model from Baxter’s TQ relation can be obtained by deforming toric conformal blocks supports our proposal.
